Installing a Stealth chip for PlayStation Model
SCPH 5502.

IMPORTANT: READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS THOROUGHLY BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS MODIFICATION!
This is for the Stealth Chip using Multi-Mode v2.xx code only.

IDENTIFYING YOUR MODEL OF PLAYSTATION

Before dismantling your PlayStation turn it over and look at the label on the bottom of the case. On the top right corner of the label it will indicate what model you have. These instructions are for the model SCPH 5502. If this model number is different do not use this set of instructions.

MINIMUM EQUIPMENT REQUIRED

Medium size Phillips Screwdriver.
Solder Iron with a fine tip.
Side Cutters.
Time – Don't rush!!

REMOVAL OF TOP COVER.

REMOVAL OF LASER DRIVE.

The Laser Drive is the black plastic unit siting on several supports located to the CENTRE on the metal plate.

DISCONNECTION OF CONTROLLER/MEMORY CARD HOUSING.

Located at front of the PlayStation.

This part is optional but will make the removal of the METAL PLATE easier:

DISCONNECTION OF POWER SUPPLY CABLE.

The Power Supply is located to the left-hand side of the main board in PlayStation.

REMOVAL OF THE METAL PLATE.

What the Laser Drive was mounted on.

REMOVAL OF THE MAIN BOARD.

INSTALLING THE STEALTH CHIP

If installing the Bare Stealth Chip, solder the seven wires to the pins of the Stealth Chip as per table below.

Using the diagram and locate where the Stealth Chip is to be placed and stick Stealth Chip to this position.

You can now solder the seven wires to their correct places on the main board as indicated on the diagram and table below:

Pin 3 GREEN wire YELLOW circle with a 3
Pin 4 BLUE wire YELLOW circle with a 4
Pin 5 GREEN wire RED circle with a 5
Pin 6 BLUE wire RED circle with a 6
Pin 7 YELLOW wire YELLOW circle with a 7
Pin 8 BLACK wire RED circle with a 8

DOUBLE CHECK that you have soldered the wires to correct positions on the main board and that the soldered connections are good, no bridging or blobs of solder left on the board etc

Now you are ready to re-assemble your PlayStation, simply by following the steps in reverse order from step: REMOVAL OF THE MAIN BOARD

Once you have re-assembled your Playstation, plug in all your leads and turn it on and check that it will load an Original CD and an Imported or Back up CD.

If all has gone well congratulate yourself otherwise read the Troubleshooting section.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you identify any of the following:

Turn the PlayStation off and disassemble to check the procedures have all been done correctly.
